In 2014, Monica was a 42-year-old stay-at-home mom planning her son’s 5th birthday party when she learned she had Stage IIIc, ER/PR+ invasive lobular breast cancer. You’ll most likely interact with her if you publish a story in Wildfire Magazine, or appear on The Burn podcast. She considers it an honor to take in the Wildfire stories from submission to print. Monica is the community guide at Bezzy Breast Cancer, a freelance writer, and also served on the board at Bay Area Young Survivors (BAYS) for five years. Monica has shared her breast cancer experiences through artistic expression in solo and group exhibits at El Comalito Cultural Arts Center, Cal Maritime Community Gallery, and Bedford Gallery at Lesher Center for the Arts. Monica lives in the San Francisco Bay Area, where she was born and raised.
